Use the Defaults tab to define default coding associated with the course.
The defaults are applied to sections and students and can be changed as needed. However if the default AAR code is changed after sections are created and students get the default, the AAR code isn't updated on the student record. In that case, student records will have to be edited individually.
Some course defaults can be set differently on separate versions of a course.
While in the Edit Course window, click on the Defaults tab.
Click Edit Defaults, and the fields become editable. Example
Complete the fields as described.
AAR Code:
Select from the list of codes defined in the TREx Data Standards
code table TC19 and used on the Academic Achievement Record (AAR).
Dual credit course: When entering a dual credit course, select
D - A college course taken for
which high school and college credit are awarded. This
selection provides additional options necessary for reporting
the course to the state when creating sections. Click here
for more information on dual credit courses.
Distance Learning: No longer used. Leave the default value.
Population Served: Select from the list; defaults to 01 - Regular Students. This code can be changed at the section level. When the population served is 05 - Career and Technology Students, select either Non-Funded CTE Course or CTE Course from the CATE Indicator / Hours field.
CATE Indicator / Hours: Select from
None: Not a CTE course.
Non-Funded CTE Course: A CTE course for which no CTE funding is derived — i.e. one at a district that does not receive CTE funding.
CTE Course: A CTE course that generates funding. When this option is selected, enter the Hours as a whole number. If credit hours > 1, then contact hours are typically > 1.
GPA Weight:
This number defines how the system handles the course in
relation to the GPA
calculation — for example, standard = 1.00, advanced coursework
might be 1.10 or 1.25. If the course is excluded from the GPA
calculation, enter 0.00.
Note: If using a custom
GPA logic, please consult WebSmart staff.
