The Build Course Sections bulk task is best used when scheduling multiple students across multiple grades and multiple tracks for a single schedule.
Use this utility to build course sections based upon the course requests current in the system for students associated with this schedule. The system will automatically PURGE any existing system-generated course sections prior to attempting to build new ones. Any and all enrollments and reservations will be purged.
It's NOT a good idea to run this process when scheduling a few students because running this process could potentially wipe out any work you've done in building course sections.
However, if you have students already enrolled in sections, you'll be prevented from running this utility.
If you're already in the Schedule Editor, skip to step 4.
Select Students from the Jump to Module pull-down list in the upper right corner.
Select Schedule Manager from the Scheduling menu, and that window opens.
Click the icon for the schedule you want to edit, and the Schedule Editor opens.
Click on the Bulk Tasks tab.
Click Build Course Sections, and that window opens. You'll see the following warning message: "You are about to run a utility that will mechanically build course sections. In order to do this, it will be necessary to purge any existing system generated course sections. Any manually created sections will remain unaffected." You must check the acknowledgement box in order to proceed.
Check the box labeled, Please confirm and acknowledge you understand the consequences of running this utility.
Click Save. The utility will reset all offerings, analyze all current requests, and build a schedule that will try to best satisfy the requests. It will then review the scheduling rules and remove any sections that don't qualify.
