The course catalog does not have to be created each year, but you should review it each year, and update it if necessary.
Select Students from the Jump to Module pull-down list in the upper right corner.
Select Course Catalog then Courses from the Scheduling menu, and Courses List window opens.
Click Add Course, and the New Course window opens.
Complete the fields as described.
Course Area: Select from the list defined in Scheduling > Course Catalog > Course Areas. The course area is used in graduation and academic plans and determines how courses are sorted on the transcript.
State Service ID: Select from the list of codes from the PEIMS Data Standards C022 table.
Local Code/Name: These fields default to the code & name from the State Service ID field and determine what is displayed in Grade Book, Parent Portal and all grade reports, including the Report Card.
We recommend that you leave the default local code.
Long names: Edit long names to fit the field. For example, change Languages other than English, Kindergarten - French to something like KG French.
Dual credit courses: Edit the local code and name of a dual credit course to differentiate it from a regular section of the same course. For example, you might change the name from Statistics to Statistics - Dual Credit and the local code from 03102530 to 03102530D. Click here for more information on dual credit courses.
The local code is relabeled as Course Number, and the name is relabeled as Description when the course is saved.
Number of Parts: Select the number of parts in which the course will be taught. For example, a year-long course would be taught in two parts — one part in each semester. This number controls the course Sequence code for the course in accordance to the course type code defined on the Attributes tab. For example, 2 parts = code 1 and 2; 1 part = code 0. Note: If the district teaches the same course in different formats, multiple courses should be set up to match the way in which the course is being taught.
Click Create, and additional tabs become visible. Example
Continue with Define Course Attributes.
