You can add assignments only after a policy has been applied or defined by the district/campus.
You can use the Copy To Other Sections command to copy assignments to other sections that use the same grading policy, but not to sections that use a different grading policy.
Extra credit grades are entered in the Grade Book when entering student grades.
Extra credit grades are either added as points to an assignment's category OR treated & graded as a regular assignment, but only reported for students who receive a grade for the assignment.
Select Students from the Jump to Module pull-down list in the upper right corner.
Select Grade Book from the Grades menu, then click on the Assignments tab. Note: If you don't see the Add Assignments button, you'll need to link a grading policy to the course.
Select the course/section from the Assignments for pull-down list, if needed.
Select the Cycle, if needed, as it determines the dates included in the Due Date pull-down list and defines the report card period in which the grades will be included.
Click Add Assignments, and the Assignment Details window opens. Note: This window may have additional or different fields depending on the Assignment Type and grading policy for this course/section.
Complete the fields as described. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*).
*Name: This name will be visible on the parent portal.
Description: Optional. Enter a more complete definition if desired.
Assignment Date: Optional. Enter a begin date that allows you to track the time allotted for the assignment.
*Due Date: Select from the list of all possible dates for the cycle selected in step 4 above. Note: If the due date isn't available in the pull-down list, click Cancel, and change the cycle.
Default Grade: This value will be the default when the assignment is graded; it can be edited for individual students.
*Grading Category: Select from the categories defined in the grading policy. Each grading category has a percentage weight designated in the grading policy that impacts how grades are averaged. Note: Grading policies are defined either by the district/campus or teacher.
*Assignment Type: Select from Regular or Extra Credit.
For Regular assignments, select the Weight. Refers to the weight of this assignment relative to other assignments. This number determines the number of times a grade for this assignment is used in the calculation of the average.
For Extra Credit assignments, select the Extra Credit Type of either Add to Category or Assignment.
When Add to Category is selected, extra credit grades are added as points to the assignment's category.
When Assignment is selected, the extra credit assignment is treated and graded as a regular assignment, but only reported for students who receive a grade for it.
*Possible Points: Points-based grading policy only. When this field is visible, you must define the point value of the assignment. Example
Copy To Other Sections: This command is visible only when there are other sections that share the same grading policy — and only when the assignment is being created. Select one of the following options. Example
All: Clicking this radio button will cause the system to copy this assignment to every section in the grading cycle taught by this teacher and sharing the same policy.
Course: Click this radio button to copy the assignment to every section of the same course in the grading cycle taught by this teacher and sharing the same policy.
Individual: Click this radio button to prevent the system from copying the assignment to other sections. In other words, you want to create this assignment for only this course/section.
Checkboxes: Checking a box indicates that you want to copy the assignment to that section; unchecking a box indicates that you don’t want to copy the assignment to that section.
Click Save, and you're returned to the Assignments tab with the new assignment listed.
Repeat steps 4 - 6 to add more assignments.
If you find you’ve entered an assignment that shouldn’t have been added, you can delete it. Click here for instructions.
