About Scheduling Schemes

Assigned Days

When using the assigned days scheme, the days of the school week are assigned to scheduling dates. This scheme allows you to create a weekly schedule.

For example, a high school may have the same periods on M-W-F, but different periods on T-H. Or an elementary school may have the same periods on M-T-H-F with an early closing day on W.

Creating a schedule day named Any that isn't linked to a particular day of the week can be used for scheduling days that occur regularly, but not on a weekly basis — for example, every third Thursday. These days are NOT automatically assigned to the calendar, so you'll need to manually assign them.

Alternating Days

When using this scheme, there is a different schedule on alternating days of the week. For example, A day would be on days 1, 3, 5, 7, etc., while B day would be on days 2, 4, 6, etc. So if the first two weeks of school are full 5-day weeks, A day would fall on M-W-F of the first week and T-H of the second week, while B day would be on T-H of the first week and M-W-F of the second week.

When using the alternating days scheme with an early release day, you'll need to create the schedule first, and then edit the early release days individually.

If your schedule uses alternating days and both A & B days have periods at the same time, use a code that indicates the day — for example, if both A & B days have first period from 8-9am, you could use 1A and 1B.

Some districts use the alternating days scheme to allow for scheduling longer periods for all courses. For example, A day might have periods 1-4 while B day has periods 5-8 with two periods before lunch and two periods after lunch.
